Lately

I haven't posted in quite some time, so just an update on what's been going on. I switched my major from printmaking to illustration, went on a "crackerjack smashing good time" cruise to Bermuda, started going to the gym, and was turned on to an artist whose work really hits where it hurts, Sophie Jodoin.

My illustration class critiques are very different from the ones that I had in printmaking. Whereas the printmaking faculty could go on about a piece for hours, sucking words out of the air where I thought none could be found, here they seem a little brief and shallow in comparison. In one class, a professor went around the room giving comments ranging from "that looks good" to "oh, very interesting," which made me cringe. I didn't like the bullshit talk in printmaking, but wow - I'm really not in the fine arts anymore.

A series that I really admire: Men in the Cities by Robert Longo. I remember first seeing a print hanging in Patrick Bateman's apartment in American Psycho and thinking that it was spectacular.

And now some cheery music! No more crappy embedded player that I have to paste and edit links for.
